The USC women's basketball team had the great fortune of earning a No. 1 seed in this year's March Madness tournament. Unfortunately, they were ranked last among the top seeds, placing them in a loaded Spokane Region 4.
While the Trojans have arguably the best player in the tournament in Juju Watkins, it will be a difficult road to Tampa as multiple other star players and talented rosters stand in the way of their first Final Four appearance since 1986.
Who are the best players in USC's Spokane Region 4?
1. Ayoka Lee, C, Kansas State
Lee has been one of the most dominant players in college basketball over the last five years but has missed 14 games this season due to injury. Still, she averaged 15.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest en route to Honorable Mention All-American honors this season for the Wildcats. Her combination of size and skill will be difficult for the Trojans to handle; luckily, the two teams would not face off until the Sweet 16.
2. Raegan Beers, F, Oklahoma
Beers is enjoying a dominant campaign this season in her first year at Oklahoma. She was the centerpiece of an Oregon State team that went to the Elite 8 last season, and she is picking up where she left off for the Sooners. Beers averaged 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest this year and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors as well. Though USC would not face her until the Elite 8, she's a player to watch out for as the tournament progresses.
3. Georgia Amoore, G, Kentucky
Amoore's experience should pay dividends for her this year in the tournament. The fifth-year guard spent four years at Virginia Tech before joining the Kentucky Wildcats this season and put up impressive 19.1-point, 6.9-assist per game averages. She was a Second-Team All-American this season and is arguably the most prolific three-point shooter in the country. She'll be a lot to handle for the Trojans in a potential Sweet 16 matchup.
4. Sarah Strong, F, UConn
Strong had an incredible freshman season for the Huskies, collecting accolades such as First-Team All-Big East, Big East Freshman of the Year, and Second-Team All-American honors. She is one of the most well-rounded players in the country, averaging 16.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Her ability to stuff the stat sheet and impact the game in a variety of ways could be treacherous for USC if the teams face off in the Elite 8.
5. Paige Bueckers, G, UConn
Bueckers is one of the best players in the entire country, and USC will have their hands full containing her if the Huskies reach the Elite 8. She was a First-Team All-American this season and has a laundry list of accolades in previous seasons that might put every player in the tournament to shame. Bueckers will be a problem for opponents leading Geno Auriemma's squad and the Trojans have to shut her down if they want to make it to the Final Four.
