In a USC-Arizona game devoid of highlights, Amon-Ra St. Brown delivered

There wasn’t a lot for USC football to be happy with during their Week 2 game against Arizona. But there was Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The junior wide receiver delivered a highlight in the third quarter of the tight matchup, dragging USC into field goal range.

Kedon Slovis launched the ball over the middle and it took a leaping grab with exceptional concentration for St. Brown to reel it in.

On the previous drive, Tyler Vaughns dropped a ball that fell right into the breadbasket, so it shouldn’t be understated how important that more difficult catch for St. Brown was.

Amon-Ra St. Brown made the big play for USC football when they needed it

Unfortunately, USC’s red zone offense hasn’t quite woken up this season. Slovis wasn’t able to find the endzone on the following plays and the Trojans had to settle on the field goal.

It was only three points, but they proved to be critical. USC went up 20-13 before the Wildcats responded almost immediately with a 75-yard touchdown pass over the top. That tied the game at 20-20.

The 48-yard gain for St. Brown was only his second of the game, but it sure made an impression.

USC’s Air Raid offense failed to make an impression for much of the game though. Markese Stepp ran the ball hard and scored a touchdown in the first half while Stephen Carr also punched one in. However, the offense was largely unable to take advantage of Arizona’s defense which has struggled for years and lost most of its best players to transfer this year.

As a result, the game was very much still in the balance in the second half. The uncertainty wasn’t helped as USC followed up their field goal drive with a field goal miss.
