USC football was included in the early Top 10 for four-star corner Isaac Thompson.

USC football cornerbacks coach Donte Williams isn’t just doing work for the Trojan recruiting class of 2021. He’s making waves with prospects in the class of 2022 as well.

On Tuesday, four-star 2022 cornerback prospect Isaac Thompson revealed his Top 10 schools with USC included.

The Trojans have competition from Georgetown, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida, Missouri, Michigan, Texas and Penn State.

Why should USC football want Isaac Thompson?

Thompson, who announced an offer from USC on Twitter in January, is already considered a strong prospect for the class of 2022, ranking No. 150 in the 247Sports composite. The St. Louis-based athlete is No. 3 in his home state of Missouri and No. 18 among cornerbacks.

Since he already stands 6-foot-1, 190 pounds coming into his junior season of high school ball, his physical presence is undoubtedly intriguing.

In six varsity games tracked on MaxPreps from 2019, Thompson had 16 tackles and a 28-yard interception.

It’s no so long ago USC loaded up with eight defensive backs in the class of 2019, but the secondary will undoubtedly need reinforcing by 2022, especially at cornerback. Greg Johnson and Olaijah Griffin will be eligible for the NFL after the 2020 season and will graduate by 2021. Chris Steele and Isaac Taylor-Stuart will also face pro decisions sooner than later.

The Trojans do have a wealth of defensive backs coming in for the class of 2021, including Anthony Beavers, Calen Bullock, Xamarion Gordin, Jaylin Smith and, most recently, Prophet Brown. However, Brown could end up playing running back while the other four may also be suited to the safety spot.

USC’s lone commit for 2022 is Bishop Alemany linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka, but local and out of state cornerbacks will be a high priority. Those include five-star Mater Dei CB Domani Jackson and five-star Missouri-product William Johnson, who already boast offers.
