USC football and college sports Twitter came together to celebrate Reggie Bush’s reported return.
Reggie Bush is coming back to be embraced by USC football once again. At least, that’s what was reported by Kyle Bonagura of ESPN on Tuesday evening.
The news comes on the eve of the 10-year anniversary of the devastating NCAA penalties against USC, which included an indefinite disassociation of Bush and the Trojans.
While nothing is official yet, social media was buzzing with the possibility of Bush returning while calling for his Heisman to be restored.
Best social media reaction to Reggie Bush’s reported return to USC:
While news of Bush’s disassociation was just hitting Twitter, former Trojan quarterback Matt Leinart added fuel to the fire by hinting at big news on Wednesday.
Big news coming tomorrow and I can’t wait.......

It’s no longer a question of “if” USC brings back Bush, but how.
Antonio Morales of The Athletic got this telling quote from a former Trojan on the nature of Bush’s return:
Spoke with a former #USC player about Reggie Bush today. They said: "I don’t know how it’s going to be handled. I don’t know what guidelines the NCAA has given the university but anything short of a hero’s welcome, to me, is inappropriate.” https://t.co/DXW6zdijml

Former USC defender Tony Burnett made his feelings on the matter known…
Hey @ReggieBush this is @USC_Athletics, @USC_Athletics this is @ReggieBush.. you two may have met before but just in case you forgot ?

Even former Georgia tight end Arthur Lynch weighed in.
This is long overdue.

When I was 15, all I wanted for Christmas was an authentic USC #5 jersey that they were selling through the @Eastbay magazine. Of course, Ma Dukes came through!
Now, give @ReggieBush back his @HeismanTrophy!
Make it happen, @NCAA! https://t.co/Yvi29rQRjx
So did Lamar Jordan, a former New Mexico wide receiver from Texas.
Reggie bush was an icon in the game growing up! Why take away all of the amazing memories he gave football fans?! I’m from TX too saying this lol Reggie was the truth ?? https://t.co/RF45YQsVIl

The media seemed to come together to agree on one thing: Bush’s Heisman should be restored.
Kevin McGuire from Athlon kicked it off…
Reggie Bush won a Heisman Trophy too. Don’t let the records convince you otherwise.

He was followed by Field Yates from ESPN…
Give Reggie his Heisman back too. https://t.co/A78Cj904MM

Give the man back his Heisman for the Fresno St. game alone. https://t.co/l3StZVn4Gf

Good, now give his Heisman back https://t.co/Lb2zXU44nZ
— Josh Newman (@Joshua_Newman) June 10, 2020
…and Clay Travis of Fox Sports Radio…
Reggie Bush being disassociated from USC was always an insanely dumb penalty. Good to see that ending. Heisman should apologize and give him back that award too.
— Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) June 10, 2020
…and Adam Schein of NFL.com…
About damn time. Best college football player I've ever seen. Give Reggie his Heisman back, too. https://t.co/MI6n8WLftZ
— Adam Schein (@AdamSchein) June 10, 2020
…and Ohio State 247Sports affiliate editor Dave Biddle…

Countless others shared similar opinions.
Unsurprisingly, USC fans agreed with many of those sentiments as they celebrated the news.
Reggie has only been physically absent he never left our hearts and minds. #FightOn

As He Should Be! #ReggieBush #Heisman

I'm going to cry the first time I see him run them out of the tunnel. https://t.co/HLFbjAqvuB

The Bush news was also an opportunity to rehash old wrongs when it came to the infractions levied against USC.
This can’t be said enough: USC wasn’t involved in the payments to Bush in any way. Yet somehow the program got buried.
— Ryan Phillips (@RumorsandRants) June 10, 2020
Also worth noting: what he and his family did was tame compared to the Adidas stuff. https://t.co/Kzzc6HFLnj
I saw Adam Schefer tweeted that as well and the comment section is just disgusting....People just try to blame Reggie or USC even without knowing what actually happened. ???
— zhyandy92 (@zhyandy92) June 10, 2020
Biggest travesty in NCAA history. No one — literally— honestly disagrees. Period. End stop. 100% shut up to pretenders who might troll this tweet. Bush’s violation ranked 127,341st in magnitude among all-time violations. He was paid to LEAVE. Every SEC player is paid to sign/stay https://t.co/1vOs3vLHq1
— Ted Miller (@TedMillerRK) June 10, 2020
The disassociation was a ridiculous aspect of ridiculous sanctions that exposed the ridiculousness of the ridiculous NCAA infractions process.
— Jon Wilner (@wilnerhotline) June 10, 2020
Oh, and Paul Dee was a hypocrite https://t.co/0rEfgtroWT
Finally, Jason Smith of Fox Sports Radio laid out a dream scenario for Trojan fans.
So maybe in the future we'll refer to the 2010-2020 years for the USC football program as "The Reggie Bush Disassociation Curse?" And now they'll win the national title and Slovis wins the Heisman in '20?
— Jason Smith (@howaboutafresca) June 10, 2020
The return of USC’s seventh Heisman along with the addition of an eighth Heisman winner would be quite the turn of events.

USC still needs to make the news official. They could do so on Wednesday or bide their time waiting for the right moment.
However it happens, public sentiment seems to support the idea of Bush returning to good standing as a Trojan legend.
