Three-star DE Colin Mobley announced his commitment to USC football.

USC football picked up yet another quarantine commitment on Friday as three-star defensive end Colin Mobley gave his pledge to USC football.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound prospect from Hyattsville, Maryland took to Twitter to make his announcement.

“Went through some tragedies…I made it out to make it right,” Mobley wrote along with a photo edit. “COMMITTED! #FIGHTON”

USC’s offer to Mobley came near the end of March, joining the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina and others who went after the strongside defensive end.

He’s committing to USC sight-unseen, at least while the coronavirus pandemic keeps campuses closed.

How Colin Mobley fits in with USC football

Mobley ranks 436th in the 247Sports composite, placing him second-to-last among USC’s current commits. He isn’t the most heralded, but he is the first pick up for new defensive line coach Vic So’oto.

At his position, Mobley ranks 29th while he is the 16th-best prospect coming out of the state of Maryland for 2021.

The Trojans’ defensive end group will need to be reinforced after the 2020 season, particularly with Connor Murphy, Caleb Tremblay and Nick Figueroa graduating. In fact, the entire defensive line could undergo a transformation with Brandon Pili’s eligibility running out and the potential early NFL departures of Jay Tufele and Marlon Tuipulotu.

At DeMatha Catholic High School he has operated as an end in both 4-3 and 3-4 looks, attacking the backfield with both speed, strength and recognition.

Wherever Mobley fits in, he is a welcome addition to the class which featured four-star defensive tackle Jay Toia as the only defensive line commit.

Mobley is the 12th player pledged for 2021 and the latest of ninth to commit since the beginning of March.  Longer-term commits like quarterback Jake Garcia and linebacker Ma’a Gaoteote headline the class, but the recent addition of four-star athletes like Julien Simon, Anthony Beavers and Calen Bullock, along with four-star wide receiver, have boosted the Trojans into the Top 5 nationally.
