Michael Pittman’s selection by the Colts in the NFL Draft was met by approval from USC and Colts fans.
USC football’s involvement on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft was quick and easy.
The Indianapolis Colts used their first selection of the second round to pick up a trusty wide receiver target for new quarterback Phillip Rivers. That pass-catcher was Michael Pittman.
Pittman was the eighth receiver taken in the first 34 picks of the draft, which goes to show just how loaded this wide receiver class was.

As for the media, there was nearly a consensus on the value of the pick from analysts and writers who had been evaluating Pittman as one of the steals of the draft:
Michael Pittman Jr. is an outstanding pick for Indianapolis. Contested catch warrior with great bloodlines and solid testing numbers. Perfect strike zone-expanding target for Philip Rivers.#AllJuiceHonorableMention pic.twitter.com/LGebipgjAb

Crazy stat:
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 24, 2020
The Colts had ZERO WRs with over 45 catches in 2019
They go WR Michael Pittman with their first pick in the 2020 draft
Smart pick by the Colts. Michael Pittman is a beast. Coaches at USC love how tough he is; blocks his ass off; loves playing special teams too. Ate up a good Utah defense AFTER Trojans starting QB got knocked out of the game. He dominated and led them to a big win.

Colts' newest WR Michael Pittman Jr. just does not let the ball hit the turf if it's in his vicinity.

Only five drops on 176 catchable passes in his career. pic.twitter.com/5soUXUfEfZ
Michael Pittman Jr. was nasty in Graham Harrell's Air Raid offense last season. Over 100 catches and was the best player on the field in USC's best games. So many good wideouts in this class.
— Adam Luckett (@AdamLuckettKSR) April 24, 2020
Colts needed a big Wr who is physical. Throughout Phillip Rivers career those are the WRs that he excels with. Michael Pittman JR is tough as hell like his father. Has speed and will Moss you.
— Chris Simms (@CSimmsQB) April 24, 2020
Several WRs I would have drafted over Higgins.
— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) April 24, 2020
I think the #Bengals will really regret taking him over Michael Pittman.
Pittman should've been a first-rounder.#Colts https://t.co/ZXUjF1xjOd
Michael Pittman Jr. is physical and a great route runner. Big, fast and will punish you. Great at high pointing the football and not giving DBs the chance to disrupt him. Future WR1 for the #Colts.
— Shane P. Hallam (@ShanePHallam) April 24, 2020
Wasn’t as high as others on Michael Pittman Jr.
— Jared Feinberg (@JrodDraftScout) April 24, 2020
But I liked his tape overall. Has really solid hands and is a solid route runner. Not a great blocker in the run game imo. But this was a big need for the #Colts. Fits what Chris Ballard wants. #NFLDraft https://t.co/bnWSST1T8i
I said this for Davante Adams back in 2014, and I feel the same way now, so here comes a bold prediction: Michael Pittman Jr. is going to be a Pro Bowler by the end of his rookie contract. #NFLDraft

Pittman makes so much sense for the Colts. Feels like we’re really starting to understand their archetypes. https://t.co/BSJa83EMdw

Also Michael Pittman has a cool YouTube channel so maybe we’ll get some fun behind the scenes Colts stuff.

Pittman was USC’s second selection in the 2020 draft, becoming the Trojan’s 511th pick in history. He follows in a string of wide receivers from Troy who came into the league in the second round. Most recently, those include JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marqise Lee, and Robert Woods.
Both Smith-Schuster and Woods have managed to carve out strong careers to far while Lee is hoping for a healthier and more productive time in New England, where he just signed. Pittman has the chance to live up to their example or do them one better.
