Seven Key Moments vs. Fresno State. CRUCIAL PLAYS

On Tuesday USC football moved one step closer to seeing five-star prospect Kyle Ford on the field as the freshman wide receiver was cleared to practice.

“It’s great to see him back out there,” head coach Clay Helton said. “It’s great to see his smile.”

Ford still has a way to progress before suiting up in a game for the Trojans. He can now participate in individual drills for the Trojans, but he has not been approved for team segments just yet.

Still, any participation is an improvement as he had been sidelined throughout Fall Camp while rehabbing from a high school knee injury.

The offensive line was down one key contributor on Tuesday with right guard Andrew Vorhees sitting out. Helton explained the junior lineman has a foot injury, but he couldn’t elaborate on the nature or length of that concern.

Vorhees was bumped down to the second team with Jalen McKenzie starting in his place in the season opener, but he still saw extensive playing time at guard on Saturday.

Tuesday was also the first day of practice for the Trojans without quarterback JT Daniels. He was present for the action, rolling around on an electric scooter because of the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered against Fresno State.

This is the first serious injury Daniels has ever had to deal with. The ASU game he missed last year because of a concussion was the first he’d ever missed in his playing career. The long recovery process for his injury—around nine months—will be a new experience.

“I’m sure it’s going to be difficult. I’ve heard It’s a pretty tough challenge,” Daniels said. “But there’s nothing else I can do except show up every day trying to get better and get back to health.”
