News of five-star athlete Bru McCoy’s decision to transfer from USC football, two weeks after committing and enrolling, had social media in a tizzy.

Where Are USC's Transfers Now?. MORE

Two words: Dumpster Fire.

That may just sum up the social media reaction to news that Bru McCoy, the nation’s No. 1 athlete for the class of 2019, has decided to enter his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

McCoy had only just committed to the Trojans at the start of January and had been enrolled in classes for two weeks when rumblings of a potential transfer cropped up. Those rumblings became reality on Thursday afternoon.

As the top-rated recruit in USC’s class of 2019, McCoy is a major loss for Clay Helton and his coaching staff. But more than recruiting rankings, his departure further demonstrates the troubles USC has been mired in all year, starting with losing Kliff Kingsbury shortly after hiring him as offensive coordinator and continuing with unrest on the board of trustees.

Hence the dumpster fire references which littered USC Twitter on Thursday.

From incredulous media to furious fans, here’s a look at the best of the social media reaction to the disappointing news:

Trojan fans also took the opportunity to air their grievances against their recent misfortune, but also the people deemed responsible for the health of the program:

The fallout from McCoy’s departure is sure to continue as USC enters the final stretch of recruiting for 2019.

The Late Signing Day is coming up on February 6 with a ton now riding on it. Not only must the Trojans find a new offensive coordinator and finish filling up restocking the roster by adding more players to the class, but they must also work to hang onto a couple more key players who could still join the exodus.

Four-star receiver commits Kyle Ford and Puka Nacua could soften the blow of McCoy’s leaving by signing letters of intent on Signing Day. But that’s only if USC manages to hang onto them.
