Su’a Cravens was selected by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, prompting a flurry of social media activity congratulating the player and analyzing the pick.
Su’a Cravens became the first USC player picked at the 2016 NFL Draft Friday, landing a home with the Washington Redskins in the second round.
Naturally, Twitter was quick to react to the selection as coaches and teammates sent Cravens congratulations and well-wishes.
Here’s a look at the best of the reaction:
First though, the avid social media user Cravens himself tweeted his own message after waiting the better part of the day to find out his NFL team.
The Redskins and USC sent out formal messages while Trojan head coach Clay Helton had a message for his star defender as well.

And of course, the media and other observers wasted no time analyzing the ins and outs of the pick.
Interesting #USC connection for Su'a Cravens: current Redskins DC Joe Barry was a USC grad & former USC LB coach under Lane Kiffin in 2010.

Cravens way underrated. Future All-Pro. Write it down. https://t.co/YdjTjID8G4

#fighton @Sua_Cravens Great pick for @Redskins hybrid athlete. LB/S

Su'a Cravens is tough and competitive. He ran a 4.69 40 which is a bit troubling but his instincts and processing get him to plays quicker.

.@LanceZierlein's first line on Cravens: "Born to be a football player." Sounds about right.
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) April 30, 2016
Cravens is stout against the run in the alley, a physical blitzer and can cover in the slot on base downs which yields a lot of versatility.

Scot McCloughan turned the weakest part of the #Redskins into their strength after adding Cravens and Norman to their secondary.

Text from a NFL scout: "Love, love, love Cravens."

Su'a Cravens #Redskins Scott McCloughlin's definition of a "football player" Instinctive. I would play him at SS & nickel LB @nflnetwork
— Charley Casserly (@CharleyCasserly) April 30, 2016
Purely from a playmaking standpoint, Su’a Cravens was one of the top players in the Pac-12 last season. Pure football instincts and tough.
— Chris Karpman (@ChrisKarpman) April 30, 2016
Cravens is my favorite pick so far!!!! His first year at USC he looked like the best safety in college... favorite player Sean Taylor!
— Al Bundy (@Reddslim) April 30, 2016
In my PAC-12 chats, PLAYERS talked about how good Cravens is. Coaches loved Myles Jack.
— Ted Miller (@TedMillerRK) April 30, 2016
Su'a Cravens said he wasn't expecting the #Redskins to call him. Said he'll be a dime linebacker here.
— Master (@MasterTes) April 30, 2016
With Cravens’ pro career officially launched, now Trojans fans can turn their attention to the draft prospects of Max Tuerk, Cody Kessler, Kevon Seymour and the rest of the USC representatives waiting for their names to be called.
