Iman Marshall Signing Day Predictions: USC, Michigan, Florida State, or LSU?
Iman Marshall out of Long Beach Poly will announce his college decision Wednesday during ESPN’s Signing Day Special in the 1:00 p.m. hour.
The five-star cornerback announced his final six via teaser trailer, settling on USC, LSU, Florida State, Notre Dame, Michigan and UCLA.
The Trojans are the hometown favorites, but Florida State and LSU have churned out top notch defensive backs. Notre Dame and Michigan offer top-notch head coaches and tradition, while UCLA would allow him to stay in Los Angeles and build a unique brand.
Where will Marshall decide? Here’s our takes:
Alicia de Artola:
Iman Marshall is as important a recruit as the Trojans have targeted over the past few years, with the potential to make USC’s secondary one of the top units in the country. So you know that Steve Sarkisian and company have gone hard for him.
There’s always the possibility that an athlete with as much flair for the dramatic as Marshall might attempt to launch his star outside of the most likely choice, but that’s just it: USC makes the most sense.
Marshall grew up around the great Trojan teams of the Pete Carroll era. He knows all about the prestige and tradition. He’d be joining some top level talent at the position at USC. He’d be fairly certain of immediate playing time. He’d be in one of the media capitals of the world to grow his image.
I can’t imagine him going anywhere else because he has practically no reason to turn down the Trojans.PREDICTION: USC Trojans
Michael Castillo:
Everything surrounding Marshall screams USC. He’s visited the campus a lot. He goes to Long Beach Poly. He grew up a USC fan. His family didn’t go with him on official visits.
And so much of his recruitment feels identical to Adoree’ Jackson’s last year, which wound up going according to USC’s plan despite it being a wild ride.
It’s one of those situations were the subtweets and diversions make it seem like there’s no way he’s going to pick USC, but then you’re left wondering where else he’d go, only to fail to come up with anything viable.
Florida State could perhaps make sense. And Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh has a lot of recruiting ammunition considering he recruited Richard Sherman. But they’d both be major shocks, as would UCLA or LSU.
So by process of elimination, let’s go with SC here.PREDICTION: USC Trojans
Josh Webb:
Iman Marshall has talked about USC since he was a freshman and USC has recruited him since he was a freshman. If you talk about your dream school being USC and you grew up there and that’s where you always wanted to go, and they recruit you from that point and stay on you, how do you bet against this?
I just don’t know how I could project him anywhere else, other than USC. I feel like he could go anywhere, but I’m not going to project him to Florida State when he’s been talking about USC the way he has, for years.PREDICTION: USC Trojans
