The USC track and field team returned Monday after an exciting weekend competing in the NCAA championships, and aside from the top finishes that some of the athletes posted, the team had something else to celebrate. According to USCTrojans.com, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott also announced on Monday that 27 athletes from USC’s track team received all-conference academic honors.

Four Trojans, Matthew McCormick, Ryan Thomas, Thea Weiss and Greg Woodburn, were named to the First Team. Woodburn was also designated as a rare USC “triple scholar” earlier this Spring, for being selected as a Renaissance, Discovery and Global Scholar by the University. He was one of just three USC “triple scholars” in 2012 and is one of 11 selected since 2008 when it was first possible to be a be named a “triple scholar.”

For the men’s squad, five more Trojans were named to the second team, giving USC more first and second team All-Academic athletes than any school in the conference. For the women, three more athletes were named to the Second Team, tying for fourth-best in the conference.
