USC Football Recruiting: Where the Class of 2013 Stands
US Presswire
With the commitment of Ty Isaac on Tuesday and Eldridge Massington earlier this month, the Trojans’ Class of 2013 now stands at six commitments. There are 10 spots remaining in the abbreviated class, due to one scholarship remaining in the Class of 2012, which will likely enable quarterback Max Browne to enroll early at USC next January. Nonetheless, here’s a breakdown of USC’s six commits, with four of the six residing inside the FanSided 150.
Max Browne Position: Quarterback (5 STAR)FanSided 150 Ranking: 9Height: 6-foot-5Weight: 205 lb.Hometown: Sammamish, WA.High School: Skyline High SchoolUSC Projection: Browne could vie for the starting job as a freshman in 2013, but the likely scenario sees him lose that battle to Cody Kessler or Max Wittek, then redshirt before getting a shot to start in 2016 or 2017 as an upperclassman. But, he’s more talented that Kessler and Wittek, so all bets are off.
Kenny BigelowPosition: Defensive End (5 STAR)FanSided 150 Ranking: 13Height: 6-foot-3Weight: 325 lb.Hometown: Elkton, MD.High School: East Christian AcademyUSC Projection: Bigelow is a big body for a defensive end and is a likely candidate to move inside on the defensively line, possibly to play the nose guard position. He’s a physical player who fills the role that Ellis McCarthy would have brought to the Class of 2012.
Ty Isaac Position: Running Back (4 Star)FanSided 150 Ranking: 75Height: 6-foot-3Weight: 215 lb.Hometown: Joliet, IL.USC Projection: Isaac projects to give the Trojans a playmaking running back with the capabilites of fighting for starting reps with D.J. Morgan out of the gate in 2013. He’s a polished upright runner with plenty of speed, and should give Lane Kiffin plenty of options on how to get him involved into the offensive gameplan.
Chris HawkinsPosition: Cornerback (4 Star)FanSided 150 Ranking: 144Height: 6-foot-0Weight: 172 lb.Hometown: Rancho Cucamonga, CAHigh School: Rancho Cucamonga High SchoolUSC Projection: The Trojans might have to fill the shoes of Nickell Robey in 2013 should he enter the NFL Draft early. If so, Hawkins could get playing time early on, but he’ll have to battle guys like Anthony Brown and Isiah Wiley, who will be experienced by the time Hawkins sets foot on campus.
Eldridge MassingtonPosition: Wide Receiver (4 STAR)FanSided 150 Ranking: NRHeight: 6-foot-3Weight: 205 lb.Hometown: Mesquite, TX.High School: West MesquiteUSC Projection: Massington is a big, strong receiver in the mold of many past USC greats, but he’ll have to weave his way through traffic initially at USC. With Marqise Lee, George Farmer, Victor Blackwell, Darreus Rogers and Nelson Agholor at USC before him, he’ll likely redshirt in 2013.
Kylie FittsPosition: Defensive End (4 Star)FanSided 150 Ranking: NRHeight: 6-foot-4Weight: 260 lb.Hometown: Redlands, CAHigh School: East Valley High SchoolUSC Projection: Mitts will have some competition at USC, with the Class of 2012’s Leonard Williams set to get a long look at end in 2013, as well as fellow Class of 2013 commit Kenny Bigelow getting time on the defensive line. Nonetheless, the Trojans will need to replace Wes Horton and Devon Kennard.
