There will certainly always be contenders, and specific fan bases will naturally argue in favor of their school. USC undoubtedly had the best QB room ever in the sport during the 2002 season. From collegiate success to then accomplishing at a high level in the pros, the Trojans had a tremendous set of quarterbacks on campus that year.
Maybe the 2019 Alabama or 1982 Miami rosters can enter the conversation, but they would be fighting for second place.
Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Matt Cassel all being in the same position group is truly all-time stuff. To have two eventual Heisman winners and over 30 years of combined NFL experience learning from coach Norm Chow is one of the rare feats that happened in CFB history.
That should show how good USC was as a recruiting magnet when coach Pete Carroll was in charge and just how much talent the Trojans were able to attract to their program on a consistent basis.
While Palmer and Leinart would be starters to lead their offenses throughout a season at one point during their careers, Cassel was more on spot duty by comparison. Even so, because of how he played when his number was eventually called, he showed enough where the lack of collegiate time did not scare NFL teams away from him.
In fact, the 2005 NFL draft ended up seeing Cassel picked up in the seventh round, ahead of Heisman Trophy winner Jason White that year, who went undrafted.
To have three quarterbacks who would eventually prove themselves and show that they were good enough to be starting-caliber options at a high level is what separates this room from some of the others in college football lore.
Either first or second, USC has the best all-time QB rooms
What is nice about this argument is that even if someone disagrees about this QB room in particular, then USC boasts the best candidate either way with the 2004 room that included Leinart, Cassel, and John David Booty.
Regardless of which year one picks from around that timeframe, the Trojans had an impressive corps at the quarterback position. When taking into account how the rules are currently set up, it is very much doubtful that fans will ever be able to see such strong QB options within the same program ever again.
