When the USC Trojans lost their Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief of Staff Brandon Sosna, there was a confidence shared among the SC fanbase that Athletic Director Mike Bohn would find the right replacement.

After all, he's made countless strong support staff hires and made the best hire in USC football history (remember, the Pete Carroll hiring was considered an awful hire at the time) in the Lincoln Riley addition. Replacing the "architect" of the Riley hire (Bohn's words) would be tough, but if anyone could do it, it's Bohn.

Sure enough, he struck gold with a hiring of a new General Manager/Senior Associate Athletic Director for Football. That new addition will be Mississippi State's Dave Emerick. The Athletic's College Football Analyst Bruce Feldman describes Emerick as "Mike Leach's right hand man throughout his entire head coaching career."

Dave Emerick appears to only be working with USC football.

It may not actually be a negative thing, however, that Dave Emerick will only be working with the USC football program.

It goes to show that Bohn takes this football program very seriously, and seriously enough to the point where he's willing to hire people to work specifically on the elite program and focus their efforts there in particular.

Besides, again, if there's anyone who can nail the next hire where he tries to give the other sports a boost, it's got to be Bohn. After all, there's lots of excitement going on within both the football and basketball programs.

Riley has improved USC football's recruiting class from being outside the top 100 and into the top six since he's been here, and he wasn't even here until after the season ended. They also just had an eighth overall draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in Drake London.

As for basketball, they just brought in the seventh-best recruiting class in the nation (all recruiting rankings for both sports in article are as of 247Sports). They also just saw Isaiah Mobley drafted on Thursday. USC's athletics department is on quite the upward trajectory, and it didn't slow down at all with the Emerick hire.
