USC football will be playing their Homecoming/Reunion Weekend game on November 5th this year. That game will be against the Cal Golden Bears. It's a good Homecoming matchup for USC, as it's a matchup that has importance for the Trojans. It's not a rivalry, but will continue to have importance as long as USC continues their tradition of playing every single year.

Therefore, it's only fitting that the Trojans play their traditional matchup for the game that they also honor their Homecoming tradition. Heck, Cal is one of just four teams that SC plays every year, and one of them is almost always going to be saved for rivalry week. What better opportunity to host Berkeley than Homecoming?

It's also a matchup that SC has lots of success playing in. SC is 71-31-5 against California, and will likely continue that success in 2022. Cal is coming off of a rough last couple of seasons where they have a 6-10 record over that time. Cal's actually been very horrible for a long time now, too, and not just the last two years. In the last 15 seasons, Cal has gone 84-95.

USC football has a major coaching edge over Cal.

USC football's head coach--Lincoln Riley--has a 55-10 record over the course of his five-year career. Cal's head coach (and former USC Defensive Coordinator)--Justin Wilcox--has a 26-28 record over the course of his five-year career. Riley has not won a Power 5 conference once in his life. Wilcox has never come close to winning a division.

There will be a major talent edge for USC over Cal as well. In the last six recruiting classes for USC (in order from most recent to most distant), the Trojans have placed 6th, 8th, 68th, 20th, 4th, and 4th. In the last six recruiting classes for Cal, the Golden Bears have placed 55th, 32nd, 40th, 47th, 42nd, and 70th. (All recruiting rankings are as of 247Sports.) The differences in the rosters are gigantic.

Attending the Homecoming game would be a great choice. It's not only a great time to head back to one's school and reminisce on great times while participating in many festivities, but it will also be a great time to enjoy a very likely Trojan W against a Pac-12 opponent.
