The USC Trojans are dominating the Cal Golden Bears at the Coliseum after one half. They lead 31-9.

Nelson Agholor produced a highlight reel first half with 13 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Cody Kessler picked up 293 yards and three touchdowns in the half.

Jared Goff struggled to make an impact, throwing for just 76 yards on 11-of-21 passing.

After three straight plays of ten yards or more, that last of which was partially called back because of a downfield holding penalty, it looked like Randall Telfer had spoiled USC’s first drive by fumbling on a catch over the middle. However, replay determined that the senior tight end had not fully gained possession on the catch and the Trojan drive continued.

Kessler finished off the possession with a pass into a tight window to Nelson Agholor for the opening score.

As they have done in every game this season, the Trojan defense held Cal without out points on their first possession, forcing a three and out.

USC made them pay quickly, when George Farmer got behind the defense and made a leaping 33-yard catch near the back of the endzone to put the Trojans up 14-0.

The Trojan defense stifled Cal again, but a Goff pooch punt pinned USC at the one yard line. On the first play, Justin Davis was met in the backfield and the Bears forced a safety.

Another long pass from Kessler, this time to Agholor, set the Trojans up for a Davis four-yard touchdown, giving USC a 21-2 lead.

In the second quarter, Cal continued to struggle to get things going on offense. The Trojans faced another hiccup offensively as Kessler threw just his third interception of the season near the goal line. On the next play from scrimmage however, the Bears fumbled and the Trojans recovered. This time Kessler hit Agholor in the endzone and the Trojans extended their lead to 28-2.

Before the end of the half USC drove down to the goal line, but were unable to come away with the touchdown. An Andre Heidari kick from 25-yards out made it 31-2.

Goff and the Bears made the most of the final minute of the half, picking up yards against USC’s prevent defense and scoring their first touchdown of the game on a six-yard pass to Chris Harper.
