The news that Max Browne was named the USC starting quarterback for 2016 was met with excitement on Twitter. Here’s the best of the reaction…
It’s been the biggest question surrounding USC over the course of the last eight months. Would it be Max Browne? Or Sam Darnold?
Clay Helton answered the question Saturday, declaring Browne the winner of the USC starting quarterback job.

Half of #USCTwitter exhales, the other half starts throwing things https://t.co/hQSaJFZAqi

Looks like the #HeyDarnold movement will have to wait a little bit longer. https://t.co/oxfSpVAZfp

Makes sense. Helton can switch if needed, while Darnold nod would have meant likely Browne transfer. https://t.co/7Wyo23MVBv

USC takes a 1-0 lead on @AlabamaFTBL by naming Max Browne starter at QB.

You have to give credit to Sam Darnold for making the decision so hard. Everyone assumed it would be Max Browne once Kessler left. #USC

Helton loves throwing ability of both QBs. Darnold “tremendous athlete,” Browne “great pocket feet” w/ experience—4th-yr junior—won out.

USC says Max Browne will start against Alabama. But will we see Sam Darnold? May be too promising and dynamic to keep on sideline.

While Max Browne wins USC’s QB competition, Sam Darnold, a redshirt-freshman, looks like USC's QB of the (maybe very near) future.

Not a big surprise. Great supporting cast for him. Now, what can he do vs. Nick Saban & his #rolltide defense? https://t.co/ddHYh6MIUK

Max Browne joins club: Matt Leinart, John David Booty and Mark Sanchez all waited three years for their chance to start for #USC.

Clay Helton is not a rock-the-boat coach. So the safe pick was to be expected at QB #USC

Both quarterbacks deserve praise.

Browne for sticking with it and earning the job after three years and Darnold for making it so tough.
Max Browne is respected by his teammates, which will be an asset for start of season. Not always case at #USC pic.twitter.com/795qzwakqp

Could Browne and Cooper Bateman, who looks to be favorite to win Alabama job, redeem the 2013 QB recruiting class?
— Dan Greenspan (@DanGreenspan) August 20, 2016
Outside of Goff, J.T. Barrett and Joshua Dobbs, there are a lot of busts in that ’13 crop.
