USC football depth chart for 2020: How the Trojans lineup should shake out

USC football depth chart at running back
The running back room is stacked for USC’s Air Raid offense. The biggest question isn’t who will start. It’s how will many touches will be spread between the capable running backs.
29 — Vavae Malepeai (6-0, 220, Sr.*) 7 — Stephen Carr (6-0, 215, Sr.) 10 — Markese Stepp (6-0, 235, So.*) 23 — Kenan Christon (5-10, 185, So.) 27 — Quincy Jountti (5-19, 215, Sr.*)
Realistically, USC has a trident of running backs to wield in 2020. As the most veteran and reliable all-around back, Vavae Malepeai is a good guess to claim the most starts on the stat sheet. That doesn’t mean he will be a bell cow for the Trojans. Once again, they will look to cycle the running backs throughout the game. Head coach Clay Helton has also raised the possibility of seeing more two-back sets in 2020.
This could be a huge season for Markese Stepp, who could storm his way towards the majority of carries if he can continue to run downhill while also building more trust in pass protection.
With Malepeai and Markese Stepp dealing with injuries this offseason, Stephen Carr could look to get off the blocks the quickest. He’s another year removed from the injuries which have limited his output over the years. His pass-catching ability out of the backfield should be an asset as well.
Not to be forgotten, Kenan Christon has stellar speed which could be utilized by the Trojans in particular passages.
