The debut for USC basketball freshmen Onyeka Okongwu and Isaiah Mobley could not have gone better. On Friday night they will be tasked with making their mark in Game 2.
Despite a slow start from his teammates, Okongwu led the Trojans to victory over Florida A&M with 20 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks. Mobley chipped in 17 points as USC romped the Rattlers 77-48.
The Portlant Pilots are next on tap, and the Trojans should be looking for a similarly emphatic performance.
Coming into the season, Portland was riding an 18-game losing streak, but they started this campaign with a victory over Willamette. They didn’t leave it to chance either. They blasted them 86-36.
The Pilots run with a small lineup, with their tallest player forward Tahirou Diabate standing 6-foot-9, but they hit 10 three-pointers on route to that win. Starting Guards Malcolm Porter and JoJo Walker were key in the effort with 13 and 10 points.
The game on Friday will begin at 8:00 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network. Just as it was for the season opener, J.B. Long will be on the call with Don MacLean providing analysis.
You can catch Jordan Moore’s live local radio call on KABC 790 AM, the new home of the Trojans.
