1957: The Gold USC Helmet

Believe it or not, the Trojans wore a gold helmet with a single cardinal stripe for a season in 1957. And they subsequently played so poorly that it’s entirely possible that doing so resulted in a curse.

How bad were they? They were an abysmal 1-9, with the lone win coming on the road at Washington.

With that in mind, it might be a good idea that USC never try wearing Tommy Trojan inspired goal helmets. Interesting idea, but not worth the wrath of the gold helmet curse.
