No. 98 Kurt Barber
Much like Tim Ryan, Kurt Barber was the first bright spot in his number, as an outside linebacker and teammate of No. 99.
Barber was an All-Pac-10 selection at linebacker and was a bright spot on USC’s special teams, winning the Special Teams Player of Year Award as a sophomore in 1989.
The following year, Barber formed a strong duo with All-American Scott Ross, but led the Trojans in both tackles and forced fumbles. A year later as a senior, he was USC’s leader in sacks.
Barber was drafted by the New York Jets in the 1992 NFL Draft but didn’t have a lengthy career as a pro, before retiring after the 1995 season.
Junior college transfer Josh Fatu is set to wear No. 98 in 2016.
