Five-star linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd announced his de-commitment from USC Football’s 2019 recruiting class, citing the unpredictability of college football.

Half a year after making his commitment to USC Football, De’Gabriel Floyd is looking at other options.

The five-star linebacker and running back announced his decision on Twitter on Wednesday evening.

“With everything going on in college football I can’t predict who will be where by the time I get to college. With that being said, I am de-committing from the University of Southern California,” Floyd wrote.

The coaching carousel is certainly a factor in recruiting decisions, though Floyd citing the unpredictability of coaching appears to be in a general sense. USC is expected to retain the current coaching staff, though the Trojans did recently lose the services of quarterbacks coach Tyson Helton.

Regardless of Floyd’s underlying reasons, it’s not over yet for the Trojans, who still have another year of recruiting to draw him back into the fold.

“The bonds I have there are still great so they will remain one of my top schools,” Floyd wrote. “On the other hand things have changed which is why I feel like I should open up and see what’s out there.”

Floyd, who played for Hawkins High School near USC when he committed but is now at Golden Valley, is considered one of the top prospects in the class of 2019. He ranks 28th nationally, per the 247Sports composite, while sitting fifth among players in California.

Though he also stands out as a running back, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is listed as the No. 3 outside linebacker in his class.

Floyd’s de-commitment gives USC just one commitment for the class of 2019—five-star quarterback JT Daniels.

However, the Trojans do appear to be loading up on linebackers in the upcoming class of 2018, with five-star Palaie Gaoteote leading the way. USC also has commitments from four-star Narbonne star Raymond Scott and four-star Oaks Christian prospect Bo Calvert, along with four-star OLB Kana’i Mauga from Hawaii.
