Betting Odds: Washington (-7.5)

Washington is favored to beat the Trojans by 7.5 points, per the VegasInsider.com consensus line.

The spread opened at 7.5 but moved up to nine points by midweek. Positive injury news on the USC front may account for the movement back down to a touchdown margin.

More from Reign of Troy

Oddsmakers don’t anticipate a particularly high-scoring game despite two high-performing offenses. The over/under for the game opened at 61.5 points and currently sits at 60.5.

USC is 6-3 on the season and 5-4 against the spread. The Trojans failed to cover the spread in each of their three losses, all three of which featured the team as an underdog.

Since those losses, the men of Troy have elevated their play and come away with five-straight victories. However, they covered the spread in only four of those games thanks to a heads up play by receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster against Colorado. Favored by five points over the Buffaloes, USC failed to cover because the receiver opted to go down in a bid to run out the clock rather than score a sure touchdown in the final minutes.

Washington is 9-0 in 2016 but also stands 5-4 against the spread. The Huskies have been favored in every game they have played this season, but couldn’t quite cover wide margins against Portland State or Oregon State. They also missed the mark on covering lesser margins in tight wins over Arizona and Utah.
