USC Football Uniform Among Top 5 in College Football

Where do USC football’s iconic Cardinal and Gold threads rank among the 15 greatest historical looks in college football history?

Bryan Fischer of NFL.com tried his hand answering that question, with the Trojans slotting in at No. 5.

Also making an appearance on the list are Notre Dame at No. 1, UCLA at No. 7 and Oregon’s classic fighting ducks uniforms at No. 13

Here’s what Fischer had to say on the subject of USC:

"5. USC’s uniforms Not much around Troy has changed when it comes to the uniforms that coach John McKay made famous nationwide with “Student Body Left” and “Student Body Right.” The skinny:"

Much has been made about maintaining USC’s featured look over the years, with the latest trends favoring alternate looks. The Trojans shined up the helmet last season but the basic look of gold pants, cardinal jerseys and the cardinal helmet with Trojan warrior decal has not really changed since USC adopted the look back in the day.

Though Trojan fans might scoff at missing out on the top spot, Fischer’s listing is about as fair as they come.

Notre Dame’s golden domes have gotten shinier and shinier over the years, but they still stand as one of the great looks in college football. That becomes even more clear when the Irish inexplicably trot out in Adidas alternates every once in a while.

Rankings could certainly be reordered based on personal preferences but it’s hard to argue Alabama, Penn State and Michigan are not worthy of such high spots with their classic looks as well.

Of course, we can’t say we agree so much with Fischer’s latest list for NFL.com.

His ranking of the 15 best college football mascots notably excludes a certain majestic white stallion named Traveler.
