The biggest rivalry game of the season thus far comes on Saturday with USC vs. Stanford. But the No. 14 ranked Trojans will enter Stanford Stadium with a bit of limp as their two best players –quarterback Cody Kessler and defensive end Leonard Williams– have battled injuries in practice this week.Sarkisian assured reporters today after practice that the two are “ready to go”, but will not be 100 percent.
Kessler was held out of practice on Tuesday after undergoing a minor toe procedure for what Sarkisian called an infection. The junior quarterback had been dealing with the nagging injury for some time, even entering Saturday’s season opener. He returned to practice on Wednesday.
As for Williams, the big defensive lineman missed all of practice on Wednesday after rolling his ankle on Tuesday. With Thursday being a traditionally light practice day, it’s unclear if he will participate in practice.
Kessler was 25-for-37 for 394 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday against Fresno State, turning in his most impressive start since winning the starting job a year ago.
Williams was second on the team in tackles in the season opener, tallying seven total tackles, three of which were of the solo variety.
USC vs. Stanford kicks off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, and will be broadcast live on ABC with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit.
