The Las Vegas casinos are once again big fans of the USC Trojans. Steve Sarkisian’s new team opened up as 23-point favorites over Fresno State in this Saturday’s season opener according to Vegas Insider.
Currently, the line sits at 21 points in the Trojans’ favor, with an over/under total at 58.
In the USC and Fresno State’s last meeting back in December at the Las Vegas Bowl, the Trojans won soundly 45-20. The game wasn’t nearly as close as the score indicated, however. The Trojans led 35-6 at halftime and were in control from the start against a Fresno State team that was 12-1 and the winners of the Mountain West Conference.
Troy’s win covered the spread, which was set at 4.5 points in favor of the Trojans.
Last season as a whole, USC was 7-7 against the spread and played in just four games in which the over paid out. During a five-game winning streak from mid-October to late-November, the Trojans beat the spread four times.
Only once did they have a spread larger than 21 points in 2013, and that came in the season opener at Hawaii. The Trojans would’ve covered the spread if it wasn’t for a late Hawaii touchdown in the final minute to give Norm Chow’s Warriors a backdoor cover.
Saturday’s game against Fresno State kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Pacific at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and will be broadcast nationally by Gus Johnson and Charles Davis on FOX.
