Payton, a Jacksonville, Fla. native, is currently on campus for the second time this year, after visiting during the annual Rising Stars camp at Howard Jones Field towards the end of June. He de-committed from Florida last month after originally giving the Gators a verbal in February.
Listed at 6-feet, 187 pounds,Payton sports a three-star ranking from Rivals and is listed as the 41st best receiver in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Payton gives the Trojans three wide receivers for 2015, joining local recruits Desean Holmes and De’Quan Hampton. The Trojans currently have nine players on scholarship that could see time at receiver, including juniors Nelson Agholor and George Farmer, in addition to true freshmen two-way players Juju Smith and Adoree’ Jackson.
With Payton on board, the Trojans now have 16 spots secured in the 2015 class, when counting blueshirt kicker Matt Boermeester. That leaves USC with 9 scholarships spots remaining in Sarkisian’s second USC recruiting class. For more on the class of 2015, visit our class breakdown.
