One of the most sought after linebackers in the country made his recruiting efforts a bit clearer on Thursday afternoon at Nike’s The Opening.
Osa Masina, a four-star outside linebacker out of Salt Lake City, Utah tweeted out his top five schools at the moment, with the USC Trojans making the cut.
Also listed? UCLA and Arizona State out of the Pac-12, along with Michigan and Wisconsin from the Big Ten.
Utah, who was perceived as a major in-state player for Masina, found themselves on the cutting room floor.

According to Greg Biggins of Scout, the omission of the Utes was a little bit of an eye-brow raiser, though he argues that Masina “could be [the] top [linebacker] in the west region.
For the Trojans, they have a look of being a serious contender for Masina. They offered him a scholarship back in February, and had an unofficial visit from him in early March, when he visited both USC and UCLA in the same weekend.
USC currently has just one linebacker in the Class of 2015, and that is inside linebacker Cameron Smith, who committed to the Trojans back on May 21st.
With Masina playing on the outside and the Trojans adopting a multiple defense that will feature plenty of flex hybrird 3-4 looks, there’s a need at outside linebacker.
Starters Hayes Pullard and Lamar Dawson are graduating after this season, and only one other player –Anthony Sarao– currently have a start on his resume.
