The USC defense dominated throughout 2013, so it should come as no surprise that three Trojans have been represented on the National College Football Awards Association’s Bednarik Award watch list.
Defensive end Leonard Williams, linebacker Hayes Pullard and safety Su’a Cravens are among the 76 players expected to contend for the defensive player of the year award.
There are no surprises on this list for USC as Leonard Williams projects as one of the top players for next years NFL draft. With his imposing presence on the defensive line, Williams isn’t just on the watch list, as he was last year. He is among the favorites this time.
In 2013, Williams’ 73 tackles for the Trojans were second only to Pullard, whose presence on this watch list also comes as no surprise. The senior middle linebacker was USC’s field general last year and earned a place in the All-Pac-12 second team.
Cravens confirmed every ounce of hype he’d garnered coming out of high school by lighting up the field with a standout freshman season. He appeared on just about every freshman All-American list compiled while also being named an All-Pac-12 honorable mention. Starting all but one game in 2013, he nabbed four interceptions and 53 tackles.
The Pac-12 features 12 players, including four from Stanford and Myles Jack from UCLA.
