Phil Steele’s annual preseason lists have been gradually released of late, with both the All-American and All Pac-12 lists coming to light to today. For USC, two Trojans made the cut as first team preseason All-Americans: wide receiver Nelson Agholor and defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
Both Williams and Agholor were the cherries on top to a small 2012 recruiting class, as the pair from Florida picked USC on Signing Day over in-state schools like Florida and Florida State.
Williams is widely considered a top defensive lineman in the country, with multiple draft experts pegging him as high as No. 1 in next year’s 2015 NFL Draft. The junior had five sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss in 2013.
Perhaps most the most intriguing stat from Williams was his 73 total tackles last year, which is a remarkable number for a lineman, especially one that lines up on the interior as much as Williams does. The only defensive linemen in Pac-12 with more last year were Utah’s Trevor Reilly and Oregon’s Taylor Hart.
As for Agholor, he led the Trojans in receiving yards and touchdowns, finishing his sophomore season with 56 catches, 918 yards and six touchdowns. Agholor looks to continue to progress in 2014, as he did last season after a pressure-free freshman year.
Other Trojans to make Phil Steele’s All-American lists were Hayes Pullard as a second team linebacker and Su’a Cravens as a fourth team safety.
