USC Football: Max Tuerk May Move From Center In Fall

Steve Sarkisian revealed that junior lineman Max Tuerk‘s place at center may be up in the air, while incoming freshmen Damien Mama and Viane Talamaivao are set to begin their careers in the interior.

Tuerk seemed settled at center throughout spring camp and Cody Kessler praised his progression in terms of snapping the ball. However, given his versatility it has always been a possibility that he might move to whichever position had the most need.

Khaliel Rodgers and Toa Lobendahn claiming the starting guard spots over the course of spring. Mama and Talamaivao will create more competition on the inside when they arrive. Also, Aundrey Walker is due to return from injury and will likely fill an interior spot. That means Tuerk’s most likely landing place, if not center, is right tackle.

Tuerk played right tackle in the place of the injured Kevin Graf against Oregon State in 2013. Zach Banner, who sat out in 2013 due to injury, finished the spring as the starter.
