Steve Sarkisian is just two days away from his first spring practice as head coach at USC. After all the debate as to whether or not Athletic Director Pat Haden made the correct choice, the first steps in finding out via on-field results, will now take place.

The primary focus will of course be on installing the new defensive and offensive schemes, but there is also plenty of uncertainty throughout the roster and intriguing position battles that should take place.

Gone are Dion Bailey, Xavier Grimble, Marqise Lee, Marcus Martin and George Uko; all players who played key roles for the Trojans in 2013. Four of the five early entrants — Jordan Austin, Jalen Greene, Don Hill, Toa Lobendahn and Claude Pelon — will participate in spring practice, with Hill being the lone bystander.

Still hampered by a limited number of scholarship players on the roster, Sarkisian will have to find the balance between pushing his team but not to the point where it becomes counterproductive and results in attrition. That will be one of several key storylines to keep an eye on through the roughly two weeks worth of practices.
