The first meeting between the USC Trojans and Oregon State Beavers back on Jan. 30 was an overtime thriller where the Beavers managed to steal the win. Thursday’s game at the Galen Center saw the Beavers jump out to a commanding 22-6 lead and then hang out late.
J.T. Terrell led all scorers with 21 points but was unable to pull the Trojans out of the early hole. The Beavers held a 43-20 lead at halftime, as they stymied the Trojan offense with seven blocked and three steals, all in the first half.
Roberto Nelson scored 14 points for the Beavers, whose largest lead in the second half was 26 points with 12:25 remaining in the game.
The Trojans managed to cut their deficit to five points with 1:44 left to play, but the Beavers responded with five unanswered points to push their lead back up to 10 and put the game out of reach.
After shooting just 29 percent in the first half, the Trojans finished at a lowly 37.3 percent for the game. The Beavers shot 53.2 percent from the field, seemingly scoring at will on the Trojan defense.
Next up for the Trojans are the Oregon Ducks, who they will host on Saturday at 1 p.m., which will be senior night and the final home game of the season.
