Did USC attempt to hire 49ers and former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh during the coaching search in the fall?
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport the Trojans did:
What I learned this week looking into the Jim Harbaugh situation: Along with the #Browns and University of Texas, USC also made a run at him

Granted, this isn’t exactly new news. There were plenty of rumors swirling in the fall as Pat Haden’s coaching search went on during the season that Harbaugh might be a potential target.
In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter was one step ahead in December and reported that USC had indeed inquired and was rebuffed:
49ers HC Jim Harbaugh said to be on Texas’ wish list but earlier this year, Harbaugh flat out rejected USC. Expected to remain with 49ers.

The big hypothetical question to be asked is whether or not USC fans would have welcome a well-known “Trojan Killer” with welcome arms in the first place. Harbaugh’s noted feud with Trojan legend Pete Carroll and his history of beating USC in the most agonizing fashion might have given some pause, though winning does heal all wounds.
