Four-star offensive guard Damien Mama (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) committed to USC on Wednesday, marking another pledge from the much-discussed “Uce Crew” for the Trojans.
By committing to the Trojans, Mama joins fellow Uce Crew members, four-star offensive lineman Toa Lobendahn (La Habra, Calif./La Habra) and four-star Viane Talamaivao (Corona, Calif./Centennial) as 2014 signees.
Also part of the group is John ‘Juju’ Smith (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly), who will announce his decision at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
After the Trojans only managed to sign two offensive linemen in the 2013 class, the line was a point of emphasis for the 2014 class and Steve Sarkisian has added a quality lineman in Mama.
As it stands, Mama is one of five offensive line commits — two of which, Jordan Austin and Lobendahn, are already enrolled.
Mama was originally scheduled to visit USC the weekend of Jan. 17 but was forced to postpone. No matter, Mama publicly expressed his anticipation for the trip earlier in the week and it is now evident why that was the case.
The 6-5, 360-pound lineman did manage to strike some fear in the Trojans’ heart however, as he considered taking a late visit to UCLA. Mama eventually decided against the visit and the Trojan lean trimmed his final list to Alabama, BYU and the Trojans.
Rivals ranks Mama as the No. 1 offensive guard in the 2014 class and the overall No. 39 prospect in the 2014 class.
