Four-Star DT Jacob Daniel To Visit USC This Weekend

The 2015 recruiting train is already chugging along with USC set to welcome several recruits for next year’s class this weekend.

Jacob Daniel (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North), a four-star defensive tackle, will be heading south to visit the Trojans as the final year of his recruitment gets started.

Daniel was a Washington commit until December, when he decommitted on New Year’s eve in the wake of Steve Sarkisian’s departure to USC. He doesn’t have an offer from the Trojans yet but considering Washington’s interest before there’s a good chance he’ll pick one up at some point.

The 6-4, 298 pound Fresno product is considered one of the top defensive tackle talents in the country. Rivals ranks him as the ninth ranked at his position nationally and the 10th best player in California. He has garnered offers from such schools as Fresno State, Miami, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Stanford, and UCLA.

The Trojans are getting a visit from another highly rated 2015 defensive tackle prospect this weekend as well. Kahlil McKenzie (Concord, Calif./De La Salle), another four-star, is scheduled to drop by USC.

Sark’s got to target defensive linemen in 2015, so this is good. Uko’s gone, Kennard and Breslin are gone, Woods is gonna be gone, and Leonard Williams is surely leaving after this year, right? Got to hit the DL hard. Which makes you wonder if that plays into the importance of a Josh Frazier next week…

If Frazier visits, I think he flips. And that would be a huge get for Sark. Probably bigger than flipping Viane or getting Juju, AJax or Mama, because it would be power move, without much leverage, despite losing Bo Davis to Alabama.

Viane was Orgeron, but yeah, I see what you’re saying. But really, there’s a lot of reasons to de-co from Bama. There’s a logjam up front on that line when you look at A’Shawn Robinson, then add in guys like Hand, even though he’s an end. Those dudes have lots of eligibility left and Bama is going to oversign and have to cut guys. It’s not a healthy environment, whereas SC needs depth at DL after Uko decided to leave. Outside of Williams and Woods, it’s really only Bigelow that can play inside right now.
