National Signing Day is rapidly approaching and Steve Sarkisian’s USC Trojans are looking to finish off the class with a bang. Part of that bang could come in the form of John “Juju” Smith, the nephew of USC running backs and special teams coordinator Johnny Nansen.
According to ESPN’s Erik McKinney, the five-star safety/wide receiver athlete out of Long Beach Poly High School is down to a final four of Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA and USC.
The Trojans appear to be the favorite at the moment, as Smith is a tight member of the Uce Crew, which includes Trojan commits Viane Talamaivao and Toa Lobendahn. Fellow USC target Damien Mama is also a member of the Polynesian friends, leading to the viral photo above of Talamaivao, Mama and Smith.
Smith, along with Mama and five-star athlete Adoree’ Jackson sit atop USC’s wish list.
USC’s class currently sits at 16 commitments, but that number could grow with the expected departure of Shay Fields, who spent this weekend on an official visit at Colorado and not with the Trojans.
The 16 pledges leave Sarkisian’s 2014 recruiting class with three remaining spots, making it possible to have one for each of the Trojans’ most coveted trio.
National Signing Day 2014 is on Wednesday, February 5th.
