Perhaps one of Steve Sarkisian’s most surprising additions to his coaching staff at USC was the hire of Marques Tuiasosopo.
When Sarkisian was hired at USC, the two names that appeared to be locks to also make the jump from Washington were Josh Lupoi and Justin Wilcox.
Wilcox would eventually join Sarkisian, whereas Lupoi would not, due to an NCAA investigation.
Given Tuiasosopo’s deep ties to the Huskies program, the famed quarterback wasn’t so much as an afterthought to join the Trojan staff — at least publicly.
In 46 games for the Huskies, Tuiasosopo passed for 5,879 yards and 33 touchdowns while rushing for 1,495 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Tuiasosopo appeared to be even more of a long-shot when he was named the Huskies’ interim coach for the 2013 Fight Hunger Bowl.
This will be Tuiasosopo’s second coaching stint in Los Angeles, as he previously coached tight ends at UCLA in 2012.
Tuiasosopo will coach tight ends and was also given the associate head coach – offense title.
The 2014 season will mark Tuiasosopo’s second season as a tight ends coach.
