USC's Tim Tessalone Wins Bert McGrane Award

Who said the Trojans were shut out of the national postseason awards? Today, longtime USC sports information director Tim Tessalone was announced as the 2013 recipient of the Bert McGrane Award.

Per the Football Writers Association of America, the award is presented to an FWAA member who has performed great service to the organization and/or the writing profession. Tessalone is the 41st recipient of the award.

The USC SID had a statement in the FWAA’s press release of the award, stating his appreciation for the honor:

I am humbled and honored to receive an award that not only is named after a man who served the FWAA so well, but that has been presented previously to icons who are well above me in stature and ability. It is a privilege to be in their company. Thank you to the FWAA membership, with particular gratitude to Chris Dufresne (2013 FWAA President) and Mark Blaudschun (1999 FWAA President).

Tessalone will receive the award at the FWAA’s Annual Awards Breakfast on January 6th. He first became SID at USC in 1984 and is currently the longest tenured SID in the country. In 2012, he earned the title of associate athletic director under Pat Haden.

We at Reign of Troy gladly offer our congratulations to Tim Tessalone.
