Three-star dual-threat quarterback Jalen Greeen committed to USC after receiving an offer from the Trojans this weekend, according to Blair Angulo of ESPN’s WeAreSC.com.
Greene was a commit to Washington, expected to be an early enrollee after flipping from Boise State. He hails from Serra and at 6-3, 195 is Yahoo! Sport’s 19th ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2014 class.
It’s not often that USC goes after quarterbacks of Greene’s style, historically preferring NFL-style pocket passers over dual-threat. The offer to Greene, on top of the commitment, could represent a shift in mentality as new head coach Steve Sarkisian looks to install an offense which incorporates more aspects of the spread. Greene is certainly a more spread-type player, with the athleticism to hurt teams with his legs.
The commitment comes in the wake of the announcement that Clay Helton will remain on Sarkisian’s staff. That means both of Greene’s recruiters, Helton and Tee Martin (according to 247 Sports), will be sticking around with the Trojans.
Greene becomes USC’s 15th commit in the 2014 recruiting class and the fourth to pledge allegiance to the Trojans since Sarkisian was hired. He is also the first quarterback to commit to USC in this class.
