Sophomore wide receiver Nelson Agholor was named to Athlon Sports’ All-America team as the second-team punt returner.
Agholor led the nation in punt return average, taking gaining about 21.63 yards a kick. He earned Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors against Cal for returning two punts for touchdowns. Those two returns put him second in the nation in punt return touchdowns.
Ryan Switzer, of North Carolina, beat Agholor out for first team honors.
USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams was also named an All-American by Athlon. He slotted into the third-team at defensive tackle.
Williams was the anchor of the monster USC defensive line, one of the best units in the nation this season. In twelve games he logged 12.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He was second among Trojans with 72 tackles.
Athlon also named an All Pac-12 team which featured Agholor and Williams as first teamers. Joining them, center Marcus Martin made the second-team offense, while linebacker Devon Kennard, the Trojans’ sack leader, and safety Dion Bailey, who led USC with five interceptions, made the second-team defense.
The Pac-12 itself named their own all-conference team with Martin in the first team and linebacker Hayes Pullard in the second team. Soma Vainuku was also honored as the top special teams player.
