The USC Trojans turned the 2013 season around under first interim head coach Ed Orgeron, but have limped into the bowl season following a hefty loss to arch-rivals UCLA and the resignation of the aforementioned man in charge. But for the odds makers, there’s still a lot to like in the Trojans, as they’ve opened up as 6-point favorite according to Vegas Insiders consensus.
The Fresno State Bulldogs have suffered just one loss this season, 62-52 to the San Jose State Spartans in late November. That loss knocked them out of BCS contention but they bounced back against Utah State this weekend to secure the Mountain West conference title.
USC is 6-7 against the spread this season, while the Fresno State Bulldogs are a rather interesting 4-7-1.
The Trojans and the Bulldogs play on December 21st for the second time in their history.
The first matchup was in the 1992 Freedom Bowl when Rob Johnson and the favored Trojans fell to the Trent Dilfer-led Fresno State, 24-7.
The more memorable of the two was the most recent. In 2005, Reggie Bush secured the Heisman Trophy in a 50-42 Trojan victory. He racked up 513 all-purpose yards in the shootout, which was eventually vacated as part of NCAA sanctions.
