Despite the light-hearted atmosphere Ron Burgundy created, Steve Sarkisian did manage to get out some interesting tidbits pertaining to his vision and plans at USC during an interview on the Dan Patrick show.
Sarkisian said he hopes to harken back to the days when celebrities roamed the sidelines at Trojan home games, something he called a unique aspect to USC.
Sarkisian also revealed that he planned to reach out to Ed Orgeron, but didn’t believe the beloved coach would return to USC.
The revelation that Sarkisian would discuss a return with Orgeron may be a sign that both Tosh Lupoi and Justin Wilcox would not end up on his staff at USC.
Though there haven’t been any indications that landing Wilcox will not occur, getting him on the Trojan staff appears to be hung up on his buyout.
Similarly, Sarkisian getting Lupoi on his new staff also has its share of hurdles.
Given the emotional and public manner in which Orgeron resigned from USC, his return could create an uncomfortable environment.
What may further exacerbate the matter is Orgeron was widely considered the player’s preference for the head coach position.
However, the saving grace for potential pairing is Sarkisian and Orgeron have a previous relationship when they both were assistants on Pete Carroll’s staff.
