Peterson, Franklin Rumors Heat Up As Haden Reportedly Nears Coaching Hire

It didn’t take long for the USC head coaching rumors to ramp up in the wake of the Trojans’ final regular season game.

ESPN’s Joe Schad reported tonight that athletic director Pat Haden could make his announcement as early as this week, with Boise State’s Chris Petersen and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin as the top choices.

Petersen has led his Broncos to an 8-4 record in the Mountain West this season, but has two BCS bowl wins to his name and has been among the hottest coaching names of the past decade.

Franklin, a newcomer by comparison, has impressed in the SEC. He took over a mediocre Vanderbilt program in 2011 and has won 23 games. The 15 wins combined he logged in his first two seasons was the Commodores’ best showing in two seasons since the 1920s.
