For the second straight week, USC had a player earn recognition from the Pac-12.

Last week, it was Josh Shaw who was named Pac-12 defensive player of the week after his eight-tackle performance against Oregon State.

On Monday, Nelson Agholor was named the Pac-12 special teams player of the week.

With 168 punt return yards against Cal, Agholor set a USC single-game record. Perhaps even more impressive, Agholor’s record-setting day came with him only fielding two punts.

Both of his punt returns resulted in touchdowns.

It was the second time Agholor recorded 100 or more yards in punt returns; the first coming against Notre Dame on Oct. 19.

Agholor’s performance sets up an interesting battle as No. 4 Stanford makes the trip to the Coliseum on Saturday.

Cardinal wide receiver Ty Montgomery has also been a handful for opposing special teams units.

Montgomery’s contributions on special teams provided tremendous help to the Cardinal who narrowly defeated the Washington Huskies 31-28 on Oct. 5.

Like Agholor, Montgomery also has two games where he eclipsed 100 punt return yards.

Which ever player is able to have more of an impact on special teams may tilt the game in their team’s favor.
