USC will be looking to turn its season around this weekend with an important home victory, but Boston College has started the season strongly and will be looking for a signature win of their own. Here’s what the Eagles must do in order to hit the Trojans while they’re down:

  • Balanced offense. With Andre Williams leading the ground and pound rushing attack and Chase Retting managing the passing game efficiently, Boston College has the tools on offense to test the USC defense. However, they won’t get anywhere by being one-dimensional. In the first two games of the season BC ran the ball with Williams 23 and 35 times. This time they’ll be facing the #1 rushing defense in the country. It is essential that the Eagles establish the run, but they can’t get sucked into relying it completely. They’ll also need to challenge the weaker areas of the USC defense — namely the secondary. Chase Retting needs to protect the football from the ballhawking Trojans and get Alex Amidon going early in order to keep the USC front seven honest.
