The USC Trojans are officially in their third week of Fall Camp, a week that will surely be spent crystallizing the new look the Trojans will field in 2013, most importantly for that of the quarterback position. It was a chilly night practice for the Trojans in the Coliseum, but one that kicked off their final week of camp before game prep begins next week.
Cody Kessler got the majority of reps with the first team in Sunday’s evening practice, though Head Coach Lane Kiffin said he needs to watch film to really evaluate who had the better performance. Though Kiffin maintains neither Kessler nor Max Wittek have separated themselves as the leader in the QB race, Kessler has received more reps with the first team since Friday’s scrimmage, where he dominated against the second-team defense.
Outside linebacker Devon Kennard and OL Marcus Martin left practice with what appeared to be minor injuries. DL Antwaun Woods returned to practice, and S Dion Bailey was on the field in full uniform but did not practice.
On the offensive line, Aundrey Walker and John Martinez split first-team reps at right guard. Walker had been getting the majority of reps with the first team prior to Sunday, so it would appear Martinez has made a push to keep himself with the starters. WR Marqise Lee continues to practice in a yellow no-contact jersey, though he is very active in the sessions.
A gaggle of top recruits stood on the sideline for USC’s practice, most notably Malik Dorton and Damien Mama of St. John Bosco. Jahleel Wahdood, a Cal commit, also took a visit to Troy, as did Miami QB commit Brad Kaaya.
USC practices next on Monday, Aug. 19 at 3:15 p.m.
