USC held two-a-days again on Monday, the first practice being light and low key and the second being what Head Coach Lane Kiffin described as the best practice of fall camp. As competitive as practice was, injuries kept key players out of the session. This practice took place at Dedeaux Field as opposed to Howard Jones, and will for the next few days.

It’s been a tough evening for the Trojan wide receiving corps; starters Marqise Lee and Nelson Agholor sat out from the second practice, as did the up and coming star, Darreus Rogers. Kiffin told the media after practice that he anticipates all five of USC’s receivers will get playing time this season, as he is very pleased with the progress of Victor Blackwell and De’Von Flournoy as well.

Lee continues to be day-to-day since sustaining a minor shoulder injury last week.

On the ground, RB Buck Allen made the most of the evening session. He had many impressive runs and continues to propel himself up the depth chart. Of his newfound ability to flourish, Kiffin said he feels Allen is the player that has benefitted the most from the coaching change to his position. He also quipped that Allen is in very strong academic standing going into the semester.

OL John Martinez took the majority of the reps with the ones while Aundrey Walker played right guard with the twos. He looked strong pulling up in the hole, and is still competing with Chad Wheeler for the starting job at LT due to the fact that Wheeler stepped up and really impressed the coaches in Walker’s absence.

Defensively, Kiffin noted that the cornerbacks are having flashes of impressive plays, though that group still isn’t solid just yet. He didn’t single anyone out as particularly impressive, but he did note that as of now, he has no plans to switch anyone’s position in the secondary. Freshman DB Su’a Cravens spent most of the evening getting reps with the second team in nickel pages. For the first time since getting dinged in Week One, he looked really fluid. Defensive linemen Morgan Breslin and J.R. Tarvai sat out of the evening session after getting dinged in the morning practice.

USC will hold its 11th day of Fall Camp on Tuesday, Aug. 13th at 3:15 p.m.
