How many games will USC win this year? Well, according to an early betting line from a European gambling site called 5Dimes, that number sits at an over/under of 10.5 for the Trojans.
USC plays a 13-game schedule in 2013 that includes a favorable non-conference slate and the possibility for improvement on last year’s 7-6 season. The Trojans’ schedule breaks down into three distinct tiers, of which the 10.5 mark seems plausible.
There’s seven should-win games against Hawaii, Washington State, Boston College, Utah State, Utah, California and Colorado. Then there’s three toss-up games with Arizona State, Arizona and Oregon State, and three tough rivalry matchups with Notre Dame, Stanford and UCLA.
To beat the 10.5 line, the Trojans will likely have to win the seven games they’ll be expressly favored to win, and take two toss-up games and two rivalry games, to give them 11 regular season wins. Needless to say, that’s a pretty tall task with a new starting quarterback and a secondary full of
fresh frosh faces.
Overall, there were lines for 19 teams that opened over the weekend, including three teams on the USC schedule. Both Arizona State and Notre Dame opened with an over/under of 9.5, while Cal gets over/under of 4.5 wins in their first season under Sonny Dykes.
National powers listed include Alabama at over/under 11.5, Florida State at 10.5 and Michigan at 9.5. For a full list of the 19 schools as published by Beyond the Bets, click here.
