As we inch closer to the kickoff of the 2013 season, the preseason speculation dominates internet conversation. Athlon Sports has unveiled a number of preseason lists and on Tuesday, released that of their 2013 All-American team, one that sees one Trojan make the first team and three others make the second and third teams.
Taking a look at college football’s top athletes across the nation, AthlonSports.com selected Marqise Lee to their First Team Offense, which comes as no surprise. The junior had an incredible sophomore season, one marked with a number of USC and Pac-12 records and culminating in winning the Biletnikoff Award. Lee is the only Trojan to make Athlon Sports’ first team, though S Dion Bailey does make their Second Team Defense. Interesting, because Bailey has never played a collegiate game at his natural position of safety–but will in 2013–as he has spent his career in Troy thus far at linebacker. Athlon Sports also chose DT Leonard Williams and DE Morgan Breslin for the Third Team Defense.
Additionally of note, Lee was also listed as a Second Team Specialist, as a kick returner.
Earlier in June, the website released its Pac-12 Football 2013 All-Conference Team, and Lee, Bailey, Breslin and Williams made the first team, as expected.
For the All-America team, fellow Pac-12ers RB De’Anthony Thomas (Oregon), RB Ka’Deem Carey (Arizona), and G David Yankey (Stanford) made the First Team Offense, and DT Will Sutton (Arizona State), CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (Oregon), and S Ed Reynolds (Stanford) made the First Team Defense.
